David Parr steps down from the Mersey Gateway Crossings Board following the successful delivery and opening of the Mersey Gateway
Following the opening of Mersey Gateway Bridge David Parr will be returning to his full time role as Chief Executive of Halton Council.
Mr Parr has led the Mersey Gateway Project for the last 13 years through the development, procurement and construction phases, to its successful opening on 14th October.

Halton’s iconic new crossing of the river, the Mersey Gateway Bridge, has now opened to the public.
“As one of the largest infrastructure projects in the UK the numbers behind Mersey Gateway are staggering. The scale and complexity of the engineering and construction activity is phenomenal.
Some of the figures involved show that delivering this project on schedule and under budget is an incredible achievement. I’d like to say well done to everyone involved – the construction team, the council team and the tolling teams and very importantly – the Merseylink volunteers – for making such a vital contribution.”

Halton Borough Council, Mersey Gateway Crossings Board and Merseylink can confirm that a spectacular light and fireworks display will happen at 8.30pm on Friday 13 October, to signal the countdown to the opening of the Mersey Gateway Bridge.
The announcement follows the news that the Mersey Gateway Bridge will open to vehicles at just after midnight on the morning of Saturday 14 October.
