A collection of historic bottles – some thought to be as much as 150 years old – unearthed in Halton during Mersey Gateway works is being displayed at the project’s visitor centres.
Two giant bridge building machines have been lifted into position high above the River Mersey, ready for work to begin on the main bridge deck for the new Mersey Gateway crossing.

The ‘loop’ slip road that connects the eastbound Weston Link to the eastbound Southern Expressway, heading towards Preston Brook, will close permanently from Monday 11 April. Read more →
Demolition works will take place this weekend at Ditton roundabout in Widnes to remove the north bridge of Ditton flyover. This requires the breaking out of concrete which is particularly noisy, especially where the concrete is attached to the steel beams.
Work will begin at 7pm on Friday 8 April to set up the area with the main demolition work starting at around 3am on Saturday morning. The demolition work is expected to continue for up to 24 hours, with breaks. Following this, the demolished bridge will be removed and the road cleared, ready to be reopened before 5am on the morning of Monday 11 April. Read more →
