The Mersey Gateway Project

When the new Mersey Gateway Bridge opens, the main A562 Speke Road which leads towards Liverpool will be redirected to take traffic directly to and from it. There will be no toll barriers or booths so traffic will flow freely across the river.

Beneath the main road to and from the bridge, Ditton Junction will be changed from a roundabout to a junction with traffic lights. When it’s all finished, if you are heading to or from Widnes you will still be able to head towards Liverpool or cross either the new Mersey Gateway Bridge or the Silver Jubilee Bridge from Ditton Junction.
